Family Medicine Clerkship
The AHEC in conjunction with the UAMS Department of Family and Preventive Medicine (DFPM) provides the required Family Medicine Clerkship for UAMS junior medical students. Between 80-85% of the junior students are assigned to an AHEC for this experience in El Dorado, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Jonesboro, Pine Bluff or Texarkana. The clerkship focuses on the outpatient management of medical problems commonly encountered by family physicians. Students who participate in the clerkship at an AHEC site complete a standardized curriculum while learning and working with the AHEC family medicine faculty and residents in a community-based setting. More information about the family medicine clerkship may be found on the DFPM website.
