Origin: I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and lived there until I was ten, when my parents decided they couldn't take shoveling snow until May any more and moved us to Conway, Arkansas. I then moved to Texas at 18 for undergrad and medical school, so I've spent a third of my life in 3 different states.
Medical School: I attended UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, which trains medical students out of Parkland Hospital, whose claim to fame is that JFK was brought there after he was shot.
What I like about AHEC: I like that AHECs are unopposed residencies, where family medicine residents receive specialty training without having to compete with other residents for educational opportunities. I think the Fort Smith AHEC program offers a diverse and complete training, which prepares its residents well for private practice in a number of different areas.
What I like about Fort Smith: I love the downtown area! It's a little small after living in Dallas, but it's cute and a lot safer than a big city. I also enjoy the proximity to Fayetteville, Little Rock, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City when I want to go shopping or go to a sporting event.
Medical Interests: My primary interest in medical school was OB/GYN, so I completed an intern year in OB/GYN at UAMS in Little Rock. After six months, though, I realized I needed more variety and missed seeing both pediatric and male patients, which is why I switched specialties to Family Medicine. Currently, my main medical interests include emergency and critical care medicine, obstetrics, and preventive medicine.
About Me: Outside of the hospital, one of my main interests is sports. I was raised in a fanatical Green Bay Packers-loving family, and after moving to Texas, I became a die-hard Texas Longhorns fan. I enjoy watching practically every sport, and besides the Packers and the Longhorns, my favorite teams include the Dallas Mavericks and the Texas Rangers. I despise the Dallas Cowboys. Other than sports, I enjoy reading and have been known to start and finish two or three novels during a weekend off. I love trashy TV and have seen every episode of Gossip Girl and Grey's Anatomy. I have two Munchkin cats named Peyton and Cooper, and without their cheerful faces, I would have never gotten through medical school. I love to travel and once spent a year in Leeds, England. I hate hot weather, yet I don't think I'll ever move from the South. Most of all, I look forward to spending the next few years in Fort Smith!
