Family Medicine Residency Program
EMERGENT/URGENT Care Fellowship
On track to begin in July, 2011, the Family Medicine Residency at AHEC Southwest will have a one year fellowship in emergent/urgent care. The emergency room experience at AHEC SW is vast with over 72,000 patients annually. Were the CHRISTUS St. Michael Emergency Room one mile east of its present location, it would be the busiest emergency room in the entire state of Arkansas.
Two fellows each year will spend one year in the fellowship. Under the direction of the residency administration, the emergency room staff at CHRISTUS St. Michael, many of whom are board certified family physicians, serves as faculty for the fellowship. The fellows will direct care in a substantial amount of major trauma stabilization events, acute coronary emergencies, and other major urgent clinical situations. This is an incredible setting from which to draw experience and learning opportunities.
There is a didactic curriculum to be followed. The fellow will also have teaching opportunities within the residency. Further details are being worked out but we are looking forward to taking candidates from family medicine residency graduates in 2011. Check this web site for updates throughout the year as that date gets closer.
