Cell Phones
Due to the nature of our patrons, cell phones are allowed in the library. However, we ask that those needing to use their cell phone to please do so outside, as conversations may be disruptive to others in the library.
Children
Children under the age of 16 must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. A photo ID may be required to verify date-of-birth. The UAMS AHEC SW Library does not maintain collections or provide services intended for children. All public-access computers have full access to the internet. There are not content filters to prevent children from accessing inappropriate material.
Computers and Internet Usage
Computer use is restricted to UAMS faculty, staff and students, library subscribers, and visitors seeking health related information.
Conduct
We ask that all patrons be considerate of others and keep noise to a minimum. Creating excessive noise by conversation, audio devices, and cell phones is discouraged.
Library staff will contact Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department concerning any criminal behavior in library areas.
Emergency Evacuations and Drills
In the event of an emergency or an emergency drill, the library must be evacuated. Patrons should exit the library through the main exit or the emergency exit located at the rear or the library and remain in the parking lot until further directions are given.
Fines on Overdue Materials
There is a charge of $.25 per item, per day, for overdue materials. Lost or stolen materials will be billed at replacement cost. Refusal to comply with this policy may result in loss of library privileges.
Food and Drink
Drinks with lids are allowed in all areas of the library. Food is allowed in the conference room only.
Gifts and Donations
The library accepts donated materials and financial contributions.
Donated materials not needed for the local collection may be given to other libraries, sold, or destroyed.
Although we are happy to provide a detailed receipt of donated items, the library cannot put a monetary value on items.

Non-Circulation of Print Journals
As a general rule, journals do not circulate. Exceptions can be made at the discretion of the staff. If a journal is lost or stolen, the patron will be billed at the subscription rate for that title.
Personal Property
The UAMS AHEC SW Medical Library and staff are NOT responsible for any items left in the library. If an item is turned into staff, it will be held for approximately 30 days, after which it will be discarded.
Smoking
UAMS is a smoke free campus.
Vandalism/Abuse
Abuse of library materials is prohibited. Abuse may include, but is not limited to:
Marking, highlighting, or underlining text and writing on or folding pages
Removing pages, portions of pages, or bindings
Concealing library materials for the exclusive use of an individual or group
Stealing library property or the personal property of users or staff
Vandalizing or defacing the building, furniture, or equipment.
Abuse of materials or property may result in revocation of library privileges, removal from AHEC SW property, and in some situations, Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department involvement.
